I created the soundscape for a immersive projection interactive, a central highlight of Sharks, an exhibition at the Australian Museum in Sydney. The exhibition aims to educate visitors on the importance of sharks, and their significance and relationships with first nations cultures around the Pacific.
The projection interactive features video content projected onto two 4-metre tall circular surfaces, and the video content alternates between two states: a narrative mode and an interactive mode. I created a unique piece of music tailored to each of these. The narrative mode is a 3-minute film outlining the complex relationship between sharks and humans, and the music here is grand, orchestral and emotive. The interactive mode is a 12-minute virtual oceanarium, and with the help of motion sensors, visitors can point and select different species of sharks as they swim by to reveal information. The music here is ambient and serene, and features descending key changes to reflect the visuals descending through the zones of the ocean.
The exhibition was designed by Studio Cassells, a multidisciplinary design studio, and the visuals were created by Yucolab, a experiential multimedia design studio. Both are based in Hong Kong.
Below are the two videos and their accompanying music and sound design, as well as photos from the exhibition.
